Psalm 90:1-2   (The Message Translation)

            "God, it seems you've been our home forever;

            Long before the mountains were born,

            Long before you brought earth itself to birth,

            From 'once upon a time' to 'kingdom come,' You are God!"

            One of the unique and distinctive doctrines of the Christian faith is the Incarnation of God in Jesus Christ.  Christianity is the only faith that dares to claim that God entered our world and our lives in a living, breathing human being, whom we know as Jesus Christ.  From the very beginning, God has been a personal God, who longs for an intimate relationship with his most prized creation, those whom he created in his very own image. The author of Genesis tells us that God would show up in the Garden of Eden in the cool of the evening to take a stroll with Adam and Eve.  Later, when God initiated the covenant with Abraham, God promised to always be Abraham's God and that Abraham and his descendants would always be God's people.  The Gospel of Matthew begins and ends with the promise of God's presence.  When the angel told Joseph that his wife, Mary, would give birth to God's Son, he reminded Joseph of God's promise that the "Virgin would conceive and bear a son and call his name Emmanuel, which means, God is with us."  As the gospel concludes, Jesus promises his disciples:  "Low I am with you always, to the end of the age."  Our journey through Advent will culminate with the celebration of the birth of this child born of Mary, who was and still is, God with us, today, tomorrow, and always.

            Prayer:

                        Ever-Present God, one of the greatest fears in life is to be alone. Therefore, we praise you this day for the gift of Jesus Christ, Emmanuel, God with us, who, through the power of your Holy Spirit is present with us each and every day.  Amen.
