Dear Friends,

As we move forward in our journey through the scriptures, our Old Testament readings for this week move us into the Book of Numbers.  This fourth book of the Israelite Torah or Pentateuch, is concerned with events during the years the people of God wandered in the wilderness.  The title of the book, Numbers, refers to the censuses which are recorded both at the beginning and the end of the wilderness wanderings.  Numbers includes two primary sections, the Priestly Torah and the Holiness School.  In our reading from Mark's gospel, we will be reminded of the events of the final week of Jesus' life from the entry into Jerusalem through Peter's denial. The readings assigned from the Psalms will include Psalm 51 which is the prayer of confession David offered after being confronted with his own sin.  Certainly this prayer is timely for the mid-point of our journey through Lent.  Each verse of Proverbs 10 provides nuggets of wisdom which we would be wise to consider.

May God continue to bless us and speak to us as we read the scriptures together.

Grace & Peace,

Tom Lovell
