Dear Friends,
This week, we move into the second half of our journey through the scriptures. Our Old Testament readings from II Kings recall the final days of the Kingdom of Israel prior to God's people being taken into exile. As we begin our reading of I Chronicles, we will read an interesting combination of history and what biblical scholars call writings. I & II Chronicles are probably among the least read portions of scripture and that is sad, for the author provides us with a wonderful lens from which to review the history of God's people. If you can avoid getting bogged down with the genealogies, you will find that Chronicles provides a rich understanding of the unity of Israel's history.
In the Book of Acts, we will read of Paul's continuing mission to share the gospel as well as some of the difficult trials and tribulations he faced not only with the leaders of Judaism, but also with the governing authorities. Paul's confrontations with the Governor, Felix as well as King Agrippa are quite interesting.
This week, we will conclude our reading of the Book of Psalms, but feel free to return to Psalm 1 and read them for a second time. As always, the reading from Proverbs enlightens us with the wisdom of God.
Have a safe an wonderful celebration of Independence Day and may God continue to bless us as we read his Word together.
Grace & Peace,
Tom Lovell
