June 3

Dear Friends,

As we move into the sixth month of our journey through the Bible, our Old Testament readings will conclude the Book of II Samuel which chronicle for us the final years of the reign of King David.  In these concluding chapters, we will find a wonderful Psalm of Praise through which David voiced his praise of God for delivering him from the hands of his enemies.  We will also begin our reading of I Kings with the first few chapters serving as a transition point between the end of King David's reign and the beginning of the reign of his son, King Solomon.  In our New Testament reading, we will turn to the Book of Acts and read of the beginnings of the Christian Church.  Central to our reading for this week is the bestowing of the Holy Spirit upon the disciples of Jesus which led to the creation of the Christian Church.  In Psalms, we will read a section of "Songs of Ascents," which were songs the people of God sang as they made their annual pilgrimage to Jerusalem. In Proverbs 16, we are reminded of the wisdom of following the plan of God rather than the plans of mortals.

We are nearing the half-way point and I pray that our reading of God's Word has indeed been a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path.

Grace & Peace,

Tom Lovell
