Dear Friends,
This week, our journey through the Bible moves us to the concluding chapters of Jeremiah's prophecy which record for us the rebellion of King Zedekiah which resulted in the siege and fall of Jerusalem and the exile of God's people to Babylon. This portion of Jeremiah also includes a number of oracles against the nations who conspired against God's chosen.
In our New Testament reading, we move into Paul's second Letter to his protégé, Timothy, which is much more personal than the first letter. In addition to encouraging Timothy to be "strong in the grace of Jesus Christ," Paul also encourages him to remember the scriptures he learned as a youth. With this encouragement, Paul also proclaims the foundation of what we Presbyterians believe to be the truth about Holy Scripture. Paul writes: "All scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that everyone who belongs to God may be proficient, equipped for every good work."
With that being said, may God continue to inspire and equip us as we read the scripture together.
Grace & Peace,
Tom Lovell
