Dear Friends,
Our journey through the scriptures continues as our readings move us through the prophecy of Ezekiel and the Letter to the Hebrews. The passages found in Ezekiel are among the most fascinating and puzzling writings in the Bible. Through signs, visions, allegories, denunciations, and legal arguments and other venues, Ezekiel often uses bizarre and extreme images and actions to proclaim the Word of God to the people of Judah. Set in the context of the exile of God's people, Ezekiel proclaims God's judgment upon the people, but will also offer words of hope and encouragement.
The Letter to the Hebrews is more of a sermon than a letter and was probably not (as tradition once ascribed it) written by the Apostle Paul. In the passages we will read this week, the primary subject is the inadequacy of the old Levitical priesthood especially when compared to Jesus as the "Great High Priest."
May God continue to bless us as we read his Word together.
Grace & Peace,
Tom Lovell
