Dear Friends,
Christ is risen! Christ is risen indeed! What a glorious way to begin our week as we celebrate the wonder and glory of Christ's resurrection from the dead. I pray that you had an uplifting Easter and are ready to continue our journey through the scriptures with a new-found excitement.
Our reading from Deuteronomy for this week will cover a wide range of topics from laws concerning marriage and sexual conduct to harvesting the fields to making loans. We will also read of a long list of blessings and curses which are the considered the direct result of one's obedience or disobedience. Near the end of the reading for this week we will read of what I think is one of the earliest liturgical statements of faith in chapter 26th as well as Moses' charge for the people to "Choose Life" once they arrive in the promised land.
In Luke's gospel, our reading will pick up with the Transfiguration which begins Jesus' journey to Jerusalem. We will also read of Jesus' second prediction of his death as well as the parable of the Good Samaritan and Luke's version of the Lord's Prayer.
Our reading from the Psalms begins with the first Psalm in Book Three, Psalm 73, which is a meditation on the justice of God. Within our reading for this week, we will find a communal Psalm of Lament, a Psalm of Thanksgiving and a historical Psalm recalling Israel's rebellion in the wilderness. In Proverbs, we continue to learn the consequences of living a life of righteousness verses a life of wickedness.
